Today, Member of The Swedish Parliament Mr. Anders Österberg from the Social Democratic Party asked the Swedish government in a question and answer session in the parliament on human rights situation in Ethiopia linked to the violence that takes place there right now.
MP Anders Österberg who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Parlament asked the following question to the Minister of Foregin Aid, crossing his hands like Feyisa Lilesa did in Rio2016.
"Perhaps I will be killed, 'said the Ethiopian Olympic runner Feyisa Lilesa when he raised and crossed his arms over his head. He made an act of solidarity and a gesture of support for those killed and detained after the protests against the Ethiopian regime.
He stands thus in the line of those people who risk their own lives to see what is happening in Ethiopia right now.
What then happens in Ethiopia?
Situations are currently very bad in the country. Civilian protests are met with gunfire.
Sweden gives three hundred million crowns in aid to Ethiopia, certainly not directly to the regime yet.
Therefore, I ask the Minister how she looks at the violent developments in Ethiopia today ?
And if the Minister see any possibility of making one component of the assistance to build up a democratic opposition in the country?
